Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Richmond Flying Squirrels spoiled a quality start from Erie's Josh Turley as they defeated the SeaWolves by a 4-1 final on Friday night.

The Squirrels struck for a run in the top of the first inning when Rando Moreno doubled and was driven in on a Hunter Cole knock.

Erie answered the call in the bottom half of the first when Wynton Bernard led off with a double and was driven in on a Jeff McVaney single to tie the game up 1-1.

The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning when Richmond put up a two-spot to take a 3-1 lead. After a Mitch Delfino walk, Ricky Oropesa took advantage of a pitch left up in the zone by Turley, smashing it over the right field fence for his 11th homer of the season.

Richmond held Erie scoreless the rest of the game, as the Squirrels tacked on a run in the ninth and secured the 4-1 victory.

Turley (9-7) pitched a solid game on the mound for the 'Wolves, but he did take the loss. The Erie starter went eight innings, allowing three runs of five hits while walking one and fanning six.
