
Spurs Re-Assign Mahinmi to D-League Affiliate Austin Toros

NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2008 - The San Antonio Spurs announced today they re-assigned rookie Ian Mahinmi to their NBA Development League affiliate Austin Toros. Mahinmi was first assigned to Austin on Nov. 21 and recalled back to San Antonio on Jan. 28. His re-assignment is the 37th time that an NBA player has been sent to their D-League affiliate this season.
In his first assignment, Mahinmi played in 23 games for Austin, all as a starter, and averaged 18.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game. Prior to his assignment, Mahinmi appeared in six games for the Spurs, averaging 3.5 points in 3.8 minutes per game. He finished with a season high 12 points and two blocks in 12 minutes of action vs. Milwaukee on Nov. 11.
Originally selected by the Spurs in the first round (28th overall selection) of the 2005 NBA Draft, Mahinmi signed with San Antonio on Aug. 23, 2007 and spent the past four seasons playing in the French A League. He played for Pau-Orthez during the 2006-07 season, appearing in 33 French League games, averaging 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per game. He also saw action in 18 EuroLeague games, averaging 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per contest.
Mahinmi will rejoin the Toros tonight when the team hosts the Utah Flash in Austin.
