Albany Devils News Release

Lowell, Mass. - Morgan Cey turned aside 37 shots for his first AHL shutout as the Springfield Falcons (25-35-3-6) blanked the Lowell Lock Monsters (27-33-5-7) 3-0 at Tsongas Arena on Saturday evening. The Monsters finish their season series 3-5-1-1 against the Falcons.

The two squads came out hard with an energetic first period. The Falcons drew first blood with Norm Milley notching his 14th marker of the season at 12:05. Shots were tied at 12-12 after the first 20 minutes of the game. Both the Falcons and the Monsters had their chances on the power play, but Springfield dodged a bullet by killing off a five-minute major penalty assessed to Mitch Fritz for boarding Tomas Slovak late in the period.

Lowell continued to pressure the rookie backstop, who was making just his second AHL start after racking up a 17-8-5 record with three shutouts in Johnstown of the ECHL this season. Cey remained undaunted, and turned aside 13 more shots in the middle frame. Springfield added to their lead with a goal by D Doug Andress, the first of his AHL career.

The Falcons held off the Monsters for the third period as well, and padded the lead with another goal in the final minutes. Gerard DiCaire put up his first of the season at 17:01 to make it 3-0. Cey stopped 12 more Monsters shots in the last stanza to seal his shutout victory and end the season series.

Lowell heads to the road for four straight starting next weekend. They visit the Hershey Bears on Friday and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on 980 WCAP, and viewed through B2 Networks, the official broadband provider of the AHL, with the "Voice of the Lock Monsters" Ryan Johnston.
