Canadians sign Chipchura

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the team has signed forward Kyle Chipchura to a three-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chipchura, 20, was captain of the Prince Albert Raiders (WHL) in 2005-06 and led the team in scoring with 55 points (21g-34a) in 59 games. His 21 goals tied him for the team lead and he was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Chipchura was captain of the gold-medal winning 2006 Canadian World Junior Team. He earned five points (four goals, one assist) and posted a plus/minus rating of +5 in six games.

In 216 games with the Raiders, the 6'3", 208-pound center posted 165 points (59g-106a) and 320 penalty minutes. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1st round, 18th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bulldogs next action will take place tonight, Saturday, March 25 when they travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
