Spitters Stomped in Final Game of Road Trip

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters drop game two of the series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, 16-5. The Pit Spitters record drops to 26-15, and 4-2 in the second half. The Rafters improve to a 22-18 overall record and 2-4 in the second half.

Pit Spitters offense got back to it in the top of the second inning, as Colin Summerhill drew a leadoff walk. Following the walk, Camden Traficante went deep for his second home run of the season, giving the Pit Spitters an early 2-0 lead. Brendan Bobo and Jack Gurevitch drew back-to-back walks with two outs to give the Rafters their first scoring opportunity of the game. Garrett Broussard hit his first home run of the season, giving the Rafters their first lead of the series at 3-2. Things went south quickly for the Pit Spitters pitching staff, as David Rivera singled, Bobo doubled, and then Jack Gurevitch cleared the bases with a three-run home run to make it a 6-2 game. Broussard and Harrison Didawick hit back-to-back singles following the long ball, and then advanced one base on a wild pitch thrown by Jared Ure. Hogan Helligso singled to right field scoring Didawick and Broussard to make it 8-2. After a couple of walks from Nolan Sailors and Ty Johnson, Rivera flew out to right field bringing across another run to extend the Rafters lead to 9-2. Gurevitch led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, and swiped second base, setting up an RBI chance for Conniff. Conniff singled to left field bringing across Gurevitch to extend their lead to 10-2. The Pit Spitters offense began to figure things out offensively in the top of the seventh, as Dylan Carey hit a leadoff single, followed by an Andrew Mannelly walk and a Cole Prout single to load up the bases. Zach Johnson singled to center, scoring Prout and Mannelly to cut into the Rafters lead 10-4. Jack Crighton followed up the single with a groundout to short, pushing across Prout to make it 10-5. The Rafters began to erase what the Pit Spitters had just put together, as the first three batters of the bottom of the seventh reached base. Bobo hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Johnson to make it 11-5. Another three straight hits from the Rafters brought in three more runs to make it 14-5. Sailors capped off the rally with a bases loaded walk to take a 15-5 lead. After David Rivera reached base on a fielding error made by Dylan Carey, followed by another Gurevitch hit, Broussard singled to center scoring another run to make it 16-5 in the bottom of the eighth.

Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Ethan Foley threw four innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and earning the loss. Jared Ure threw an inning of relief, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks. Hold Wilder threw an inning and a third, giving up five runs on four hits, walking a pair. Easton Johnson threw the last couple of innings for the Pit Spitters, giving up two runs, on four hits and walking two.
