Spitters Make It Three Straight

Kenosha, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win the second game of the series 11-1 to the Kenosha Kingfish after scoring 11 runs in the first five innings. Taking game two of their second road series of the season, they improve their record to 5-1 on the season. The Spitters travel back to Kokomo tomorrow night for game one of their final road series.

The second game of the two-game series against the Kenosha Kingfish ended with a win after nine innings at Simmons field this evening. With the offense continuing to dominate, Nick Powers was able to settle in early throwing five innings of one hit, one run ball allowing the Spitters to sweep the series against the Kingfish.

Picking right back up where they left off from last night, the Pit Spitters got two extra base hits in the first inning to give them an early 1-0 lead. Leading off the inning, Parker Brosius got hit by the pitch which set up the Spitters for a big inning. Hayden Jatczak got on base due to a throwing an error made by Brandon Nigh. After a Devin Hukill sacrifice fly, which extended their lead to 2-0, Blake Bean and Colin Summerhill hit back-to-back singles giving the Pit Spitters a 4-0 lead. After a quick two outs to start the third, Brosius, Jatczak, and Frost all singled bringing across two more runs giving them a 6-0 lead. Kingfish changed their pitcher in the fourth, but that didn't hold back the Spitters bats from extending the lead to 7-0. Brosius hit a sacrifice fly bringing in another, followed by another walk drawn by Frost with bases loaded making it 9-0. The Kingfish finally broke the scoring column after Vytas Valincius singled and then made his way around the bases by a couple of wild pitches cutting into the Spitters lead 9-1. Summerhill continued the hot offense in the fifth as he drew a walk with one out. Kyle Hayes then hit a double bringing in Summerhill extending their lead to 10-1. Back-to-back singles by Traficante and Brosius allowed for another runner to come across making it 11-1. After three walks to load the bases in the eighth, Hayes came up and hit a single scoring two more making it 13-1.

The Pit Spitters are on a roll with a 5-1 record, winning three out of the first four road games. Making their way with a 5-1 record in the Great Lakes Division. LHP Nick Powers earns his first win of the season. The Pit Spitters scored 13 runs, on 13 hits, stealing four bags, and drawing 10 walks.
