Saginaw Spirit News Release
SAGINAW, MI. - The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Kitchener Rangers in a 7-4 loss at The Dow Event Center on Saturday night. The Spirit battled back on multiple occasions and tied the game three different times, but were unable to keep up with the Rangers, who scored four goals in the second period on their way to the win.
The Rangers scored the first marker in the game, but were unable to stifle the Spirit in the first period. Mason Kohn put Kitchener on the board 4:03 into the first period, with help from Dylan Di Perna. But the Spirit responded at 9:25, after Blake Clarke finished off a pretty passing play featuring Mike Davies and Mitchell Stephens, tying the game at one apiece. Saginaw kept the offensive pressure boiling as Kris Bennett tucked away the go-ahead goal at 12:22 of the opening frame, pushing the Spirit out front by a score of 2-1. Connor Brown and Blake Clarke were credited with the assists on Bennett's 14th goal of the season. In continuation of the back and forth affair, Kitchener's Nick Magyar tied things up once again at 17:34 of the period. Shots in the first period favored the Spirit, 12-8.
Scoring in the second period was fast and furious for both the Spirit and the Rangers. Adam Kitchener's Adam Mascherin, Miles Liberati, Brandon Robinson, and Jake Henderson each recorded a tally in the second period respectively. Matthew Kreis and Mitchell Stephens kept the Spirit within distance of the Rangers, tying the game on two separate occasions. As the scoring dwindled, the Saginaw Spirit found themselves behind the Kitchener Rangers, 6-4. Amongst the chaos, Saginaw's starting goaltender Brendan Bonello was pulled and Evan Cormier took his place between the pipes for the Spirit. The Rangers outshot the Spirit 19-9 in the second period.
The third period brought a change of pace for the Western Conference opponents. Kitchener's Jeremy Bracco scored the only goal of the final period and secured a 7-4 win for the Rangers. Final shots favored the Kitchener Rangers 36-35.
