Saginaw Spirit News Release
SAGINAW, MI. - On Saturday night, the Saginaw Spirit (17-20-2-2, 4th West Division) welcomes the Kitchener Rangers (29-6-4-0, 3rd Midwest Division) to The Dow Event Center for the first time this season. The puck drops at 7:05pm.
The Spirit have dropped their last four games, after a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the London Knights on Friday night. Saginaw faced two challenging team's last weekend, gaining one out of a possible four points against Niagara and Sarnia.
Saturday night's contest marks the third of four meetings between the Western Conference teams. The Kitchener Rangers leads the season series, 2-0. The Spirit first met up with the Rangers back in October, falling at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium by a score of 4-3. Matthew Kreis lead the way for Saginaw, scoring two goals in the defeat. The season series continued on November 13th in Kitchener, as the Rangers topped the Spirit 6-2. Rookie's Cole Coskey and Brady Gilmour carried the scoring for the Spirit.
The Rangers are currently on a four-game winning streak after a 7-3 upset caused by the Guelph Storm on January 3rd at the Sleeman Centre. Kitchener is led by Adam Mascherin and newly appointed captain Ryan MacInnis. The duo had a huge hand in the latest win for the Rangers Friday night, as Mascherin scored a pair of goals and MacInnis picked up three points in a 5-3 defeat over the Mississauga Steelheads. Mascherin has 25 points in his last 14 games for a total of 51 points this season. Since MacInnis' return from World Juniors, the St. Louis native has tallied five points in his last three games, extending his point streak to 16 games.
