
Spirit Add Two Points Following 4-2 Victory over Sting

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit knocked off the Sarnia Sting Tuesday at TheDow Event Center with a final score of 4-2. Center Jack Combs earned a hat trick in the effort, tallying three of the four goals for Saginaw. The Spirit now have 73 points and move their record to 33-23-3-4 for the season.
The Spirit controlled scoring in the first period, starting with a powerplay goal scored by center Tyler Murovich at 2:42. Wingers Joe Pleckaitis and Jordan Skellett assisted on the play. Center Jack Combs followed suit, tallying another powerplay goal for the Spirit at 8:23 into the period, with assists coming from wingers Chris Chappell and Jordan Szwarz. The period ended with the Spirit on top, 2-0.
The second period allowed more room for scoring from the Spirit. Combs found the net again at 8:46 into the period, scoring his 30th goal of the season with the assist being credited to Skellett. Sting winger Martin Martin then tallied a powerplay goal for Sarnia at 17:34, with assists coming from center Jamie Arniel and defenseman Mark Katic. The Spirit kept the lead, finishing the second period ahead, 3-1.
Sting winger Justin DiBenedetto added an unassisted goal for Sarnia in the third, finding the net at 7:17 in the period. The Spirit answered back, as Combs earned a hat trick after scoring for Saginaw at 8:19 in the third period. Wingers Jordan Szwarz and Chris Chappell both assisted on the powerplay goal. The Spirit kept the lead, beating the Sting 4-2.
Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale finished the game with 42 saves, while Sting goalie Dan Spence posted 31 saves.

The Spirit are on the road this weekend, traveling to Guelph on Friday to take on the Storm and to Owen Sound on Saturday to battle against the Attack. Both games have a 7:30 PM start time. The Spirit will return to home ice on Thursday, March 12 for another match-up against the Owen Sound Attack. The puck drops at 7:11 PM.
