AUBURN, NY - Jordan Hicks delivered seven strong innings, and the State College Spikes clinched their third New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title in the last four seasons with a 3-1 win over the Auburn Doubledays on Saturday night at Falcon Park.

With the win, the Spikes (44-23) became the first team to punch its ticket to the NYPL playoffs, which will begin on Wednesday, September 7.

Hicks (4-1) yielded one run on three hits over seven innings of work. The 2015 supplemental third-round draft choice struck out six batters during the outing, and retired the last six batters he faced.

Brady Bowen (9) then shook off three consecutive Auburn (26-39) hits in the ninth to strike out Tres Barrera and force pinch-hitter David Kerian to ground out to him and end the game. Bowen tossed a total of two innings to close out the night.

Jeremy Martinez drove in all three State College runs. Martinez delivered a sacrifice fly to right in the first inning, then knocked in two with a single to right in the third. Tommy Edman also produced a pair of hits for the Spikes, including a double.

The Doubledays plated their only run in the sixth when Andres Martinez doubled to left, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on Dalton Dulin's groundout.

Auburn starter A.J. Bogucki (0-5) took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman. Bogucki recorded one strikeout in the effort.
