Spencer's Dynamite Seven Innings Gives Huskies First Loss of the Second Half

Duluth Huskies News Release

Duluth, Minnesota - After taking game one of the second half of the 2021 season yesterday, the Huskies came out cold with the bats to fall 8-1 to the Eau Claire Express. The Express' seven run victory helped them tie the two game home-and-home series at one a piece with the Huskies. Starting pitcher for Eau Claire in Shane Spencer was masterful, collecting five strikeouts and allowing one run in seven innings of work. Second baseman Nick Marinconz led the way offensively, going two for three with two singles and two walks.

Either side couldn't hit the ball for the first three innings, then the Express found their groove in the fourth. Three hits, two walks, and a Beau Wimpee error helped Eau Claire get out to a 4-0 lead. The Huskies answered back with the help of an Ambren Voitik RBI single in the bottom half to change the score at 4-1.

Two innings later, shortstop Michael Brooks made two costly errors with the bases loaded that allowed Eau Claire to clear the bases and eventually increase their deficit to 8-1. The Express would go on to win by that score, as the Huskies couldn't salvage any more runs after the Voitik hit.

The Huskies will move onto their second series of the second half with once again, the Rochester Honkers coming into town. This will be the third and fourth time in six days that Duluth will face off against Rochester at Wade Stadium. Jonathan Guzman is set to start on the bump, coming into his match up with a 3-2 record and 2.38 ERA.
