Los Angeles Sparks News Release
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the re-signing of guard Lexie Brown, who enters her sixth WNBA season and second with the Los Angeles Sparks. Brown has agreed to a multi-year deal with Los Angeles.
"I'm super excited to be returning to LA," said Brown. "It was a no brainer to come back and be part of this new era of Sparks basketball. It has always been my dream and ultimate goal to be part of this organization. I've grown and matured so much as a person and player and after dealing with ups and downs throughout my career, it's such an incredible feeling to be valued and have a place to call home."
Brown holds career averages of 5.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 123 career games with Connecticut, Minnesota, Chicago, and Los Angeles. In the 2022 season with the Sparks, she played in 34 games with a career-best 16 starts, averaging 7.1 points, a career-best 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. She shot a career-high 39.8% from three-point range, ranking ninth in the WNBA in three-point percentage. She also played a career-high 25.0 minutes per game.
"Lexie is coming off a career year in 2022," said Sparks CAO & GM Karen Bryant. "Bringing Lexie back was an important goal, so we're glad we were able to re-sign her. We're excited she'll be a part of the group we're building with moving forward."
The Duke University graduate was drafted ninth overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun. Prior to the 2022 season, she appeared in 15 games in Athletes Unlimited after coming off a championship run with the Chicago Sky. During her time at Athletes Unlimited, she averaged 14.0 points, while shooting 52.3% from the field, including 46.9% from deep on 4.3 attempts per game. She added 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists in those contests.
"Lexie is an outstanding shooter who will provide us with invaluable floor spacing," said Sparks Head Coach Curt Miller. "She is an underrated defender with her anticipation and strong IQ. I'm excited to have the opportunity to coach her again."
During the offseason, Brown has served as a college basketball analyst for the ACC Network where she appears in studio weekly as part of the ACCN's Thursday Nothing But Net "Ladies Night" women's basketball coverage.
