Indiana Fever Sign Free Agent Erica Wheeler

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has signed free agent Erica Wheeler to a multi-year contract, the team announced today. Wheeler, a 5'7" point guard who played with the Fever from 2016-2019, averaged double figures in two of her four seasons in Indiana and was the Most Valuable Player of the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game.

"Erica is one of those unique players who can both score herself and create scoring opportunities for others from the point guard position, and the defensive intensity she brings is going to make us even tougher on that end of the court," said Christie Sides, Fever head coach.

Wheeler played her college ball at Rutgers University, where she helped lead the Scarlet Knights to the NCAA Tournament in each of her first three seasons. She led the team in steals as a junior and was a catalyst on both the offensive and defensive ends. Wheeler tied a WNBA All-Star Game record in 2019 by notching seven three-pointers on her way to a game-high 25 points and the game's Most Valuable Player Award.

"Erica really is the whole package, a team-first player who excels on both ends and is a leader on the court and in the community," said Lin Dunn, Fever general manager.

The signing comes on the celebration of the 37th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, when Pacers Sports & Entertainment tipped off a series activities to engage girls and women across Indiana.
