Lynx Forward Napheesa Collier Hosts Recess for National Girls & Women in Sports Day

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - As part of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Lynx forward Napheesa Collier spent time with students at Marcy Arts Magnet Elementary School in Minneapolis. Collier hosted a "Let's Get Active: WNBA National Girls & Women in Sports Day Recess Celebration."

"National Girls and Women in Sports Day is important because it sheds a light on how important women's sports are and how important they are to girls," said Collier. "There are multiple studies that show girls who play sports are more confident, get better jobs, get leadership roles because it instills confidence and a leadership mentality. It's important for young girls to have other women inspiration and role models. To be someone they can look up to."

In partnership with Playworks, Collier led an hour of organized play with 4th and 5th grade students including lightning, four square, hula hoop and switch. Playworks is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the health and well-being of all children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day began in 1987 to recognize women's sports. The annual celebration of young girls and women in sports, encourages girls to stay in sports and realize their full potential. In celebration of the day, all 12 WNBA teams hosted a community event for players and youth in their local communities.
