Spanberger Blasts Two Home Runs in Loss
June 2, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENVILLE- For the second time this season, Chad Spanberger hit two Home Runs in a single game. Spanberger's first two plate appearances both ended in longballs and helped the Asheville Tourists take an early lead. It was a lead they would not keep as the Greenville Drive won handily 13-5.
In the top of the first inning, Sean Bouchard put Asheville in front with a two-run Home Run to deep left-centerfield. Spanberger followed with a solo shot to make it back-to-back Home Runs for the visitors. Asheville led 3-0 after one.
Greenville plated five unearned runs off Antonio Santos in the second inning. Asheville committed three errors in the frame, all with two outs, and the Drive took a 5-3 lead. Spanberger tied the game in the very next half inning with a two-run shot to right; his second on the night.
Unfortunately, that would be the last scoring play of the evening for the Tourists. Greenville plated four runs in the fifth, added another in the sixth, and capped things off with three runs in the seventh. The Tourists have now allowed their opponents to score four or more runs in an individual inning 20 times this season.
Robbie Perkins finished 2-for-4 and Bouchard added a single and a walk to his first inning Home Run. Robert Tyler tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in the eighth. Asheville is 1-7 over their last eight games and in need of a victory on Sunday evening to avoid a sweep at the hands of their South Atlantic League rivals.
