Rome, GA - The Rome Braves edged the Columbia Fireflies Saturday evening at State Mutual Stadium 3-1 before a crowd of 2,943.
Columbia got on the board in the first inning as Wuilmer Becerra singled home a run for the 1-0 lead. The Braves answered back in the second on Drew Lugbauer's run scoring groundout for the 1-1 score. In the sixth, Rome took the team 2-1 on Jean Carlos Encarnacion's RBI base hit and in the eighth the Braves got a much needed insurance run on Jefry Ramos' sacrifice fly RBI for the 3-1 final.
Bruce Zimmermann (7-2) gets the win and enjoyed another solid start going six innings scattering six hits, allowing one run, and striking out nine. The Fireflies starter David Peterson (1-4) is tagged with a tough loss but pitched well going seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out eight. Kelvin Rodriguez picks up his fifth save of the season for Rome.
