Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Damon Jones threw seven scoreless innings and Jhailyn Ortiz had four hits as the BlueClaws topped Hickory 7-0 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Jones (4-2) struck out eight while finishing seven innings for the first time as a professional. He's the third BlueClaws starter in the last four games, joining Ramon Rosso and Will Stewart, to finish seven innings.

Lakewood (32-23) snapped a two-game skid and they've won seven of their last nine games. The BlueClaws and Crawdads (20-30) have split the first two games of their three-game series.

The BlueClaws got on the board in the third inning on a Josh Stephen SAC fly, but it wasn't until the sixth when they began to pull away. With two outs, Rodolfo Duran's tow-run single put Lakewood up 3-0.

Stephen followed with a two-run double one-hop off the left field fence for a 5-0 lead.

Hickory starter Tyler Phillips (2-5) came out after six innings, allowing five runs. He took his fifth loss of the season.

Lakewood added two more off Jean Casanova in the seventh, getting runs on a Jhailyn Ortiz RBI single and Quincy Nieporte SAC fly.

Kyle Dohy and Connor Brogdon combined to finish off the BlueClaws' league-leading 10th shutout of the season.

The BlueClaws and Crawdads play the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm. LHP David Parkinson (4-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Tyree Thompson (2-4).
