
South Bay Shoots for the Stars, Lands on a Win

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers beat the Salt Lake City Stars, 107-92, on Sunday night as all five starters scored in double figures for the first time this season. Isaac Bonga finished with a game-high 25 points to give the Lakers (2-5) their second consecutive victory at home. Willie Reed led the Stars (3-3) with a 16-point, 17 rebound double-double.
The Lakers opened up a 10-point lead, 34-24, after one as Bonga poured in a quick seven points. Tony Bradley kept the Stars close with eight points in the frame. Salt Lake City fought back in the second quarter behind 10 points from Reed to inch closer, 59-56, at the half. Demarcus Holland scored nine points in the second to keep South Bay ahead.
South Bay extended their lead in the third quarter, 82-69, as Bonga and Johnathan Williams combined for 11 points in the quarter. The Lakers held the Stars to 13 points in the frame as Salt Lake City shot only 1-of-9 from three. South Bay finished it off in the fourth quarter as Bonga and Scott Machado combined for 17 points in the closing period to secure the win.
Reed's double-double paced the Stars while Bradley nearly grabbed one of his own with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Naz Mitrou-Long (13 points) and Isaiah Cousins (11 points, nine assists) also scored in double figures for Salt Lake City.
Bonga stuffed the box score with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block as he showed off his range, shooting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Machado did a bit of everything as well with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Williams (17 points, eight rebounds), Holland (11 points, eight rebounds, three assists) and Robert Heyer (10 points, nine rebounds) each reached double figures. Joel Berry II finished with eight points and seven rebounds while Jemerrio Jones tallied six points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block in the win.
The South Bay Lakers will host the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00pm PT from the UCLA Health Training Center.
