South Bay Keeps Kings in Check for Big Home Victory

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers picked up another key victory over a Western Conference opponent as they beat the Stockton Kings, 146-137, on Wednesday night. Devontae Cacok tallied his seventh consecutive double-double and Reggie Hearn scored a season-best 25 points to lead the Lakers (18-23) to the win. Kyle Guy and Isaiah Canaan each scored 30+ points for the Kings (22-19), but it wasn't enough to secure the victory.

Neither team could be contained in the first quarter, with Stockton coming out with a 42-41 lead through one. South Bay pulled away in the second quarter, behind 12 points apiece from Pierre Jackson and David Stockton, to take an 86-69 halftime lead. South Bay's 86 points in the first half set a season high for a single half and the team tallied a season-best 22 assists in the first half.

The Lakers held a 123-104 lead through three quarters, as Hearn scored 11 points in the third frame alone. Stockton made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lakers by 10 points in the period, but a combined 16 points from Cacok and Hearn ensured that South Bay came out with the crucial win.

Guy finished with a game-high 35 points, while Canaan scored 30 points off the bench. Robert Franks tallied a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds and DaQuan Jeffries (17 points) and Eric Mika (16 points) also reached double figures for the Kings.

Cacok tallied 27 points (12-14 FG) and 11 rebounds for his 25th double-double of the season, while Hearn's big scoring night guided South Bay to the win. Jackson scored 24 points with six assists and Stockton finished the night with 23 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Talen Horton-Tucker also scored in double figures with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.

South Bay faces these same Stockton Kings on Saturday, March 7 at 7:00pm, this time on the road, from the Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA.
