March 5, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Osceola Magic News Release

The Lakeland Magic dedicated the month of February to education and literacy. The organization devoted their efforts to multiple education initiatives throughout the month.

In partnership with AdventHealth, the Lakeland Magic introduced its first children's book, "Swish's Magic Journey", a book that chronicles how the organization's mascot, Swish, came to be. The book is part of the organization's Magic 863 Program presented by AdventHealth. The program instills the importance of reading and literacy by encouraging children to read often and rewards students with complimentary tickets for reading for 30 minutes a day.

As a part of their education efforts, Lakeland Magic players and staff visited students to read and deliver deliver 1,000+ copies of "Swish's Magic Journey" to schools across Polk and Hillsborough County.

The Magic also hosted an essay-writing contest to recognize Black History Month. Students in the Polk County area from kindergarten to twelfth grade were invited to submit their essay, titled "What Black History Month Means to Me." The contest winners were all awarded tickets to the Black History Celebration game on February 1 and honored at halftime.
