Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A five-run eighth inning by the Nashville Sounds (22-30) secured an 11-3 triumph over the Albuquerque Isotopes (25-27) Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. John Gall continued his professional baseball-leading 25 game home hit streak with a single in the fourth.

Callix Crabbe led off the game by slashing a single and advancing to second on a groundout by Tony Gwynn. Laynce Nix then slapped a single to right to give the Sounds an early 1-0 lead.

Sounds starter Derrick Turnbow lost his command in the bottom of the first, allowing three consecutive walks to Chris Barnwell, Gall, and Dallas McPherson, setting up Tagg Bozied, who slugged a double past the second baseman to plate two and give the ‘Topes the 2-1 lead.

Nashville responded in the third as Crabbe set the table by reaching on a leadoff walk. Gwynn would follow with a walk as well before both runners scampered 90-feet on a passed ball by John Baker to give the Sounds two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Isotopes starter Dallas Trahern struck out Nix only to load the bases with an intentional walk to Brad Nelson, setting up a potential inning-ending double-play. Vinny Rottino capitalized in a bases loaded situation, however, singling to right-center field to drive in Crabbe and tie up the game, 2-2.

Trahern quickly collected two outs in the fifth only to have Nelson sting a ground rule double to left center field, setting up Rottino, who drive in the runner with a liner up the middle, allowing the Sounds to reclaim the lead, 3-2. J.R Hopf then knocked a two-run homer into the Sounds' bullpen in left-center field to extend their advantage, 5-3.

Again with two-outs, the Isotopes could not get out of the eighth inning either, as Brendan Katin singled into left only to sprint to second on a single by Ozzie Chavez. Adam Heether, pinch hitting for reliever Richie Gardner, then blasted a three-run homer over the left field wall that opened the game up for the Sounds by a count of 8-3. Crabbe continued to put pressure on the Isotopes, singling to center field before Gwynn moved him to second with a walk. Nix would then put the finishing touches on the inning with a two-run double, extending the Nashville lead to 10-2.

Albuquerque retaliated in the bottom of the eighth as pinch-hitter Jason Wood worked a leadoff walk for Barnwell who smacked a one-out double, advancing Wood to third. Gall then drove in Wood on a ground out to second to chip away at the Sounds' lead, 10-3.

The Sounds grabbed their eight-run lead back in the top of the ninth as Hopf led off the inning with a walk only to sprint to second on a one-out single by Chavez. Crabbe would then cap the scoring with an RBI single to send Nashville to the landslide 11-3 victory.

The Isotopes look to rebound and reclaim their winning ways against the Sounds behind righty Bobby Keppel (6-3, 5.58), who will look for his PCL-leading seventh win against Nashville right-hander Sam Narron (2-0, 3.46) in a 7:05 PM start at Isotopes Park.
