Oklahoma City Comets News Release

YESTERDAY: The Oklahoma RedHawks game with the Omaha Royals was suspended after four innings. A chemical spill at a railway yard just south of the stadium forced the evacuation of Rosenblatt Stadium. The game will be resumed today at 4:30 pm, beginning with the start of the fifth inning. Oklahoma will step into the batters box holding a 2-1 lead, thanks to a solo home run by Nelson Cruz and a RBI single by Ryan Roberts. The contest will be played out to the full nine innings, with Thursday's regularly scheduled game to follow, although that contest is slated to go seven innings.

SPILLING OVER:

Ryan Roberts extended his hitting streak to nine games with his run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning last night. His on-base streak is now at 18 games, as is his road on-base streak, runs he will look to extend in the nightcap.

NOTHING LOST:

Both New Orleans and Albuquerque lost yesterday, so the RedHawks still maintain a hold on first place in the division. The lead stands at two games over the Zephyrs and three over the Isotopes.

ON THE SPOT... AGAIN:

Steve Rowe is slated to make a spot start in the regularly scheduled game following the conclusion of yesterday's suspended contest. Rowe will make his fourth spot start of the season and his 12th appearance overall. As a reliever this season, Rowe holds an ERA of 5.58, allowing seven earned runs over 11.1 innings pitched, As a spot starter, however, Rowe has excelled, allowing two earned runs over 11 innings for an ERA of 1.64.

HERE AND GONE:

The Rangers optioned German Duran back to Oklahoma earlier today. Duran spent over a month in the majors, but hit just .193 over 26 games. Texas filled the roster spot by recalling Travis Metcalf from the RedHawks. Metcalf hit .238 with no home runs and eight runs batted in over 11 games for Oklahoma.

OMAHA AT A GLANCE:

Mike Aviles hit two home runs on Tuesday, his first two home run day since July 21 last season, when he hit two at Rosenblatt Stadium against Memphis... Former Omaha Royal and reigning minor league home run champ Craig Brazell is currently playing for the Seibu Lions in Japan's Pacific League.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:

Texas fell 5-3 at Tampa Bay... Frisco doubled up Tulsa 6-3... Bakersfield pounded Visalia 16-7... Clinton slipped past Beloit 1-0 in ten innings.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

A.J. Murray had another start shortened by extraneous circumstances last night. Murray pitched a complete game in the RedHawks rain-shortened, six inning win over Nashville on April 9, pitched one inning on April 30 prior to his recall to the major leagues, and now a four-inning start due to the chemical spill.... Nate Gold has struck out at least once in ten consecutive games, and has amassed 17 strikeouts total during that span, raising his tally from 29 over his first 35 games to 46 after 45 games played.

TIME CHANGE:

The RedHawks have announced one time change that differs from the pocket schedules. Oklahoma's game on June 1 with Omaha is now slated for a 2:05 pm first pitch.

ON THE AIR:

Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand.
