SOUNDERS FC SELECTS CHRIS BARED IN THIRD ROUND OF 2018 MLS SUPERDRAFT

SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today selected Villanova defender Chris Bared in the Third Round (68th overall) in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, with the Third and Fourth Rounds held via conference call. Bared joins Seattle University midfielder Alex Roldan and Duke defender Markus Fjørtoft, who were drafted on Friday in the First and Second Rounds, respectively, rounding out the Rave Green's 2018 draft class.
Bared, 21, was a four-year contributor for Villanova, starting 55 of 63 appearances as a fullback from 2014-2017 with two goals and five assists. The Miami native and Panama youth international has also represented his country at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
On Friday's first day of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, the Rave Green selected Roldan - younger brother of Sounders FC midfielder Cristian Roldan - with the 22nd pick in the First Round, then chose Fjørtoft with the 22nd selection of the Second Round (45th overall).
The 2018 Sounders FC preseason presented by adidas begins tomorrow, January 22 before the MLS regular season kicks off on March 4. Monday's training session is completely open to working members of the press for still photography and video b-roll opportunities, with media availability at approximately 11:30 a.m. PT. Following training, Brian Schmetzer's club hits the road for a week of training camp in Chula Vista, California.
Sounders FC is set to face Salvadoran club Santa Tecla FC in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, the region's premier club championship, with the first leg in El Salvador on February 22 and the second leg at CenturyLink Field on March 1.
