Seattle Sounders FC News Release
Having reclaimed second place in the Western Conference, the Seattle Sounders FC aims to consolidate that position and perhaps climb closer to the top spot with a pair of matches in the coming week.
First, the Sounders FC (8-5-8, 32 points) returns home following three straight road matches to host the New England Revolution (6-6-6, 24) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. PT on Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field.
Seattle then goes on the road for the fourth consecutive weekend, traveling to Texas for Sunday night's meeting with the conference-leading Houston Dynamo (11-6-6, 39).
The Seattle-New England match will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with John Paul Dellacamera and John Harkes calling the action. The match will also be carried live on both ESPN Deportes television and radio.
Sunday's contest will be shown locally on KONG 6/16 and can be heard on News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM with Kevin Calabro and Greg Vanney calling the action. It will be available locally in Spanish on Ke Buena 1210 AM with Rene Aleman, Noe Menendez and Victor Hernandez.
Rejuvenated by a 2-0 road win at Los Angeles, Seattle will be playing its first home MLS match since drawing 0-0 with Chicago on July 25. The Galaxy win snapped a string of three games without a point, including two straight defeats.
New England is the only team Seattle has yet to face in its maiden season. The Revs have been idle since an August 8 home loss to the L.A. Galaxy.
The Sounders FC will be facing a Houston side seeking to avoid a third defeat to the first-year franchise. Seattle came from behind to edge the Dynamo, 2-1, at home on July 11. It essentially duplicated that feat 10 days later with a 2-1 overtime win over Houston in the semifinal round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Seattle concludes the month with a home game on August 29 against Toronto FC before back-to-back excursions to Washington, D.C. The Sounders FC faces D.C. United for the Open Cup on September 2 and returns to RFK Stadium on September 12 for an MLS match.
