Youth Hockey Shootout

The Sound Tigers are offering an opportunity for young hockey players to show off their skills on Sound Tiger ice. The Sound Tigers are holding a Connecticut Youth Hockey Shootout, a new competition in which top goal-scorers and goaltenders from around the state will compete for prizes and trophies. Registration is limited and ends on Jan. 26. All mite, squirt, pee wee and bantam players currently enrolled in a Connecticut Hockey Conference program are eligible to compete in a regional shootout competition at the Rinks at Shelton, Milford Ice Pavilion, Danbury Ice Arena and Terry Connors Ice Rink (see signup information below). The top scorer and goalie from each of the four levels from each region will advance to compete at the Arena at Harbor Yard when the Sound Tigers host the Binghamton Senators on Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.

Each of the semifinalist winners (shooters and goaltenders) will take the ice prior to the Feb. 11 game, and shootout finals will be held before thousands of fans between periods of the Sound Tigers' battle with Binghamton. Each shooter is guaranteed at least three shots during the regional round.

Apply by Jan. 26 for a chance to participate in the shootout (exception: apply by Jan. 24 to compete at Terry Connors on Jan. 25th). The Registration fee, which includes a ticket to the Feb. 11 Sound Tigers game, is $10 for shooters; goaltenders are in high demand and may sign up free of charge. Participation is limited to the first 20 from each level at each location who sign up. Players may apply to compete at one of the four rinks by calling 203-334-4625 or online at soundtigers.com/shootout.htm. Players will be notified, within one business day, if they are one of the first 20 to sign up for each age group.

Schedule for the regional competition is as follows:

Thursday, Jan. 25, 7-8:05 p.m., Terry Connors Ice Rink (Stamford)

Sunday, Jan. 28, 6:30-8 p.m., Milford Ice Pavilion
