
Penguins assign Welch to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Noah Welch to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced yesterday by general manager Ray Shero.
Welch, 24, has played in 19 games this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording five goals, 12 assists and 16 penalty minutes. He was voted as a starter for the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2007 RBK Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, which will take place Jan. 28 and 29 at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. It is the second-straight year Welch has been selected as a starter for the event.
Welch has appeared in 22 games this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has recorded one goal, one assist and 22 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 218-pound native of Brighton, MA was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.
