Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced this afternoon that after a four-goal, eight-point week, rookie David Krejci has been named the league's CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week. The honor is the first of the season for the P-Bruins.
The 20-year-old forward from Sternderk, Czech Republic, tallied two points in each of the P-Bruins four games last week, helping Providence to a 3-0-0-1 record. The four multiple-point outings also extended Krejci's points-streak to its current eight-game stretch, during which time he has amassed seven goals and eight assists.
On Wednesday night in Connecticut, Krejci was named the game's top star in a 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack after a two-goal performance, the second score coming with the P-Bruins short-handed. Two evenings later versus the Springfield Falcons, the center earned the game's third star after dishing out a pair of assists and tallying Providence's only shootout goal, improving to seven-for-11 in that category, in a 3-2 extra-session loss. On the road again Saturday night, this time against the Portland Pirates, Krejci had a goal and an assist in a 6-4 victory. Finally, Sunday afternoon, Providence topped Portland a second time, 3-2 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, as the rookie scored the game-winning goal and also had a helper while again being named the top star of the day. Krejci had a plus-five rating for the week.
Drafted by the Boston Bruins 63rd overall in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Krejci now has ten multiple-point games this year, tied with Ben Walter for second on the team behind Kris Versteeg's 13, and he is up to 42 points (14g, 28a), fourth among AHL rookies.
Providence gets back into action with a pair of road games next weekend, returning to the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland to take on the Pirates Friday, January 26 at 7:05 p.m. before traveling a few hours south to Massachusetts to battle the Worcester Sharks Saturday at 7 p.m. The P-Bruins make their way back to The Dunk for Rhode Island Lottery Hat Night Friday, February 2 to match-up with the Pirates for the fourth time in five games. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. Information on tickets and Providence Bruins season ticket packages for the 2006-07 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto www.providencebruins.com.
