
Sound Tigers split pair of weekend games

The Sound Tigers split a pair of games last weekend beating the Albany River Rats 3-2 in a shootout at home Friday and losing 3-1 on the road to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday. The Sound Tigers finished last week in sixth place in the East Division with 34 points and a 16-22-1-1 record, including 14-5 at home and 2-17-1-1 on the road.
FRI JAN 21st vs. ALB, 3-2 SOW: JIM CAMPBELL opened the scoring with a first-period, power-play goal, and ERIC GODARD doubled the Sound Tigers' lead in the middle frame. However, DEAN McAMMOND, second period, and ALEKSANDER SUGLOBOV, third period, tied the game for Albany. ROB COLLINS and JOHN MORLANG scored, and DIETER KOCHAN stopped four of five attempts for the Sound Tigers in the shootout. The win was the second in as many trips to the shootout for Kochan who also made 34 saves in regulation and overtime. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play and 7 for 7 on the penalty kill while the River Rats had a 36-27 shots on goal advantage.
SAT JAN 22nd at WIL, 3-1 W: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 2-0 lead on second-period goals by COLBY ARMSTRONG and RYAN WHITNEY, but ROB COLLINS cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal inside the final minute of play in the frame. However, RAMZI ABID regained the two-goal lead for the Penguins early in the third period. DIETER KOCHAN made 20 saves in a losing effort. Wilkes-Barre was 1 for 6 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill. The Sound Tigers had a 26-23 shots on goal advantage.
SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK â RW JIM CAMPBELL
Now part of the first brother act in team history, along with ED CAMPBELL who signed last Saturday, JIM CAMPBELL opened the scoring in Friday's shootout win with a power-play goal. The Worcester, Massachusetts native finished last week tied for the team lead with three power-play goals and having posted four goals, six assists, ten points and 56 penalty minutes in 34 games.
THIS WEEK â Stanley Cup highlights three game weekend The Sound Tigers will play three games in as many days this weekend, including a pair of home games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard. They will visit the Providence Bruins this Friday and host the Philadelphia Phantoms this Saturday and Hartford Wolf Pack this Sunday. The STANLEY CUP will be at Sunday's game (see Community Calendar & Promotional News).
FRI JAN 28th at PRO, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the third of four meetings of the teams this season, the second of two in Providence. The Sound Tigers are 3-8-3 all-time versus the Bruins, including 1-1 this season with a road loss. Providence finished last week in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 48 points and a 20-16-2-6 record, including 12-4-2-1 at home but on a four-game losing streak. The Bruins will visit the Binghamton Senators this Wednesday.
SAT JAN 29th vs. PHI, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fifth of eight meetings of the teams this season, the third of four in Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers are 9-9-2 all-time versus Philadelphia, including 2-2 this season with a pair of home wins. The last time the teams met, on December 22nd in Bridgeport, the Sound Tigers tied the game with one-tenth of a second left in regulation on a goal by STEVE REGIER and won it in their first-ever trip to the shootout. The Phantoms finished last week in second place in the East Division with 54 points and a 24-11-2-4 record, including 9-7-0-2 on the road but on a four-game winless streak at 0-3-0-1. Philadelphia will host Hartford this Friday.
SUN JAN 30th vs. HAR, 4:05 p.m.: This will be the seventh of ten meetings of the teams this season, the fourth of five in Bridgeport. It will also be the seventh game of the GEICO CONNECTICUT CUP (see Community Calendar & Promotional News). The Sound Tigers are 18-15-3 all-time versus Hartford, including 1-5 this season with a home win and a shootout loss on the road. The Wolf Pack finished last week in second place in both the Atlantic Division and overall standings with 63 points, three behind the first-place Manchester Monarchs, and a 30-11-1-2 record, including 9-8-1-1 on the road and 7-3 in the last ten games. Hartford will visit the Norfolk Admirals this Wednesday, Philadelphia this Friday and the Hershey Bears this Saturday.
