
Bears host Hersheypark Pass night on Wednesday

Last Week: The BEARS lost three games last week to fall one game under the .500 mark at 20-21-1-0. The week began Wednesday with a 4-2 loss at home against the St. John's Maple Leafs. Nick Naumenko and Andre Savage both scored single goals in the defeat, while Tom Lawson made his frst apperance since December 19 in goal. Friday night, the BEARS traveled to Norfolk and lost to the Admirals 3-1 at Norfolk Scope. Jeff Ulmer gave HERSHEY a 1-0 lead early in the third period before Norfolk scored three times to earn the victory. Peter Budaj absorbed the loss, which was his second straight defeat after nine consecutive victories. Saturday's game with Philadelphia at GIANT Center was postponed until Wednesday, February 2 due to heavy snow in the region. Sunday, the BEARS returned to the ice at home and fell to the Binghamton Senators 5-3. Mathieu Darche scored his team leading 16th goal of the season in the first period, while Jeff Ulmer and Marek Svatos accounted for the remainder of HERSHEY'S goals Sunday. Peter Budaj absorbed the loss against the Senators on Sunday. HERSHEY stands in fifth place in the East Division standings with 41 points, trailing both Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Norfolk by 11 points for third place.
Notables: Saturday's game with Philadelphia was the first postponed in Hershey since March 14, 1993 when the game between the BEARS and the Utica Devils was called due to snow. The game was also the first postponement involving HERSHEY since December 30, 1997 when a game between the BEARS and Syracuse Crunch was called at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse. Tickets for Saturday's game will be honored with the same seat location for the game on Wednesday, February 2. Dennis Bonvie moved into 49th place all-time on the HERSHEY penalty minute list Sunday, passing Bucky Hollingsworth. Bonvie moved into the top 50 on Friday in the third period at Norfolk, knocking former BEARS defenseman Brent Thompson out of the 50th spot. Bonvie has 365 minutes since being acquired on January 23, 2004. Next up on the list: Mike Mahoney (378) and Mike Nykoluk (380) for 48th and 47th place respectively. HERSHEY has not played games on back-to-back days since December 18-19. The BEARS will play three days in a row this weekend. Saturday's game is on WHTM-TV (abc 27) with John Walton and Gregg Mace.
Upcoming promotions: The second and final HERSHEYPARK pass night of 2004-05 comes up on Wednesday, January 26 when the St. John's Maple Leafs visit GIANT Center. All fans receive a complimentary pass to HERSHEYPARK for the 2005 Park season, good through July 4, 2005. Stoner Graphix HERSHEY BEARS Post it-Notepad night is Saturday, February 5 when the Binghamton Senators come to town at 7:00 p.m. A free BEARS post-it note pad to the first 3,000 fans. COCO THE BEAR Bobblehead night, sponsored by your hometown Dodge Dealers, is Sunday, February 27 when the BEARS play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 5:00 p.m. A free bobblehead doll of HERSHEY BEARS mascot COCO to the first 4,500 fans through the gates. Sunday, March 13 is Throwback night at GIANT Center, with the BEARS taking on the Norfolk Admirals at 5:00 p.m. HERSHEY will wear commemorative 1968-69 jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game for charity.
Down on the Farm: The Reading Royals moved into a tie for first place after defeating the Trenton Titans 8-5 on Friday night. Reading captain Cail MacLean notched a goal and an assist in the victory. The Royals postponed its home game Saturday with Trenton due to heavy snow. Reading stands in a tie with Atlantic City in the ECHL's North Division standings with 47 points, and have collected points in nine of its last ten games. The Quad City Mallards stand in fourth place in the UHL's Western Division with 43 points after a 3-2 win Sunday night at home against Muskegon. Marty Standish, Jason Deskins and Mike Kompon scored in the first period to stake the Mallards to a 3-0 lead and QC never looked back.
