Sound Tigers Sign Motte, Islanders Reassign Simpson

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that goaltender C.J. Motte has been signed to an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the 2014-15 season and that goaltender Kent Simpson has been reassigned by the Islanders to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL.

Motte, 23, signs with Bridgeport as a college free agent. The 6'0, 177-pound netminder spent the past four years at Ferris State University, posting a .922 save percentage and a 2.07 goals against average in 2014-15.

The St. Clair, Mich., native was named a Top 10 Hobey Baker Award Finalist for the 2013-14 season as the nation's best college hockey player. Before attending Ferris State, Motte suited up for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League.

Simpson, 22, has played four games with the Sound Tigers this year, posting a 2.61 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. The 6'3, 200-pound Simpson earned his first win with Bridgeport on March 20 against the Springfield Falcons, stopping 32 of 33 shots he faced.
