Marlies Rally to Down Barons, 3-2

March 25, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Toronto's Byron Froese scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-1 Oklahoma City Barons lead in the Marlies' 3-2 win on Wednesday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Barons have dropped a season-high five straight and remain fourth in the Western Conference with 82 points, pending results on Wednesday night in the American Hockey League. Oklahoma City is 37-21-5-3 while Toronto, which has won four straight, jumps to eighth in the conference with 71 points and a 31-24-9-0 record.

The Barons and Marlies split the two-game season series. Oklahoma City drops to 0-5 all-time in the regular season at Ricoh Coliseum and 0-8 including the 2012 Western Conference Finals. The Marlies out-shot the Barons 33-23, including 9-2 in the third period. Each club went 0-1 on the power play.

Oklahoma City's David Ling opened the scoring with his 158th career AHL goal, and first in his first game as a Baron, when he blasted a shot from the right side of the slot at 7:06 of the first period off an errant Toronto pass. Ling, 40, was signed to a professional tryout contract on Tuesday from the ECHL's Brampton Beast to shore up a Barons lineup beset with injuries.

The Marlies tied the score at 9:46 of the second when Troy Bodie received a centering pass from Denver Manderson and beat Laurent Brossoit (21-17-4) from the deep slot. Oklahoma City countered a minute and 10 seconds later at 10:56 when Josh Winquist fired one past Christopher Gibson (20-14-3) from the slot on setups by C.J. Stretch and David Musil. Winquist has points in five straight games.

After trailing 2-1 at the second intermission, Toronto rallied to tie the score 2-2 at 4:24 of the third when Froese snapped a rising shot from the mid-slot past Brossoit's stick side on a 1-on-1 as Stuart Percy earned the assist. Froese's second goal put the Marlies in front for the first time and was the winner at 16:05 off a rush from the left-wing circle, on an assist by Matt Frattin.

The Barons continue a stretch of five consecutive road games with a 6 p.m. (CDT) contest on Friday at Utica Memorial Auditorium against the Comets, who pending Wednesday's results sit atop the Western Conference with 85 points.
