Sound Tigers Sign Johnston to ATO

The New York Islanders agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Johnston on March 31. The 21-year old forward scored 32 points (18 goals, 14 assists) along with 124 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Charlottetown Islanders this past season and added 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 10 playoff games. Johnston also served as an alternate captain for Charlottetown.

Johnston has played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since 2011-12. The Moncton Wildcats selected Johnston in the sixth round (91st overall) of the 2011 QMJHL Draft. Johnston played two seasons for Moncton from 2011-13, along with one season with the Victoriaville Tigres in 2013-14 and is finishing his junior career with Charlottetown, who is currently competing in the first round of the QMJHL Playoffs. The 6'5, 225-pound native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, totaled 91 points (42 goals and 49 assists) in 195 games throughout his QMJHL career.

Johnston participated in New York Islanders rookie camp as an undrafted invitee during the summer of 2014.
