Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONT. - The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Bulldogs Foundation announced today the Foundation has donated $6,050 to Hamilton Health Sciences' Stroke Rehabilitation Program through funds raised during the team's #FightRileyFight Night on April 2.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of specialty #FightRileyFight jerseys worn that night as well as funds from the in-game 50/50 raffle went toward the donation total.

On May 3, 2014, 18-year-old Hamilton Red Wings player Riley Dunda suffered a massive stroke while at home. That morning, Riley had stepped into the kitchen to grab something to eat, when he suddenly collapsed. At Hamilton General Hospital, doctors determined Riley needed emergency specialized treatment if they were to save any function in the affected areas of his brain. Within just a few hours of his stroke, members of the interventional neuroradiology team had restored blood flow by guiding a catheter through his blood vessels up into his brain and retrieving the clot.

Riley spent time recovering at the Regional Rehabilitation Centre at the Hamilton General site, where he underwent intensive rehabilitation therapy. Riley initially had limited motion in his right side and some language and speech deficits, however has made significant leaps in his recovery over the past months. Riley is facing a long road to full recovery, but is making improvements on a daily basis.

The Bulldogs Foundation was established in 2007. By doing so, the Foundation aims to promote the creativity of interactive programs involving education, physical fitness and personal well-being. The main purpose of the Foundation is to strengthen and broaden the base of the Hamilton Bulldogs community support by providing funds to non-profit community groups and by supporting educational and community programs.
