Cleveland Monsters News Release
Closing out the home portion of the regular season schedule, the Lake Erie Monsters (34-29-8-4) topped the Hamilton Bulldogs (34-29-12-0) 6-3 before a Monsters season-high crowd of 15,288 at Quicken Loans Arena. Andrew Agozzino notched his 30th goal of the season and added two assists, while four other Monsters scored goals in the win. The Monsters conclude the season Saturday in Hamilton, and Saturday's game starts at 7:00 p.m.
Hamilton led 1-0 after one period on a goal from Mac Bennett, and the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead on a Connor Crisp goal at 8:20 of the second period before the Monsters stormed back with five straight goals. Joey Hishon pounced on a misplayed puck to put the Monsters on the board at 8:42 of the second period; his 16th goal of the season. Just 20 seconds later, Agozzino tied the game 2-2 for the Monsters with his 30th goal of the campaign; a snap shot from the high slot, top-shelf. Reid Petryk and Ben Street assisted on Agozzino's goal.
Michael Schumacher's goal from in front of the net capped off a three-goal second period for the Monsters, and gave them a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Schumacher took a pass from Troy Bourke in front, and chipped the puck home for his 12th goal of the season. Mitchell Heard also assisted on the goal.
Tomas Vincour gave the Monsters a 4-2 lead on a shot from the left circle at 12:31 of the third period; a power play goal that was assisted by Agozzino and Hishon. The goal gave Vincour 10 goals on the season, and extended his goal scoring streak to five games. Ben Street added a pair of shorthanded empty-net goals for the Monsters in the late stages, giving him nine goals on the campaign. Gabriel Dumont scored a late power play goal for Hamilton, as the Monsters prevailed 6-3.
Sami Aittokallio started the game and stopped 19 of 21 shots in net for the Monsters; he is 8-5-1 on the season. Aittokallio left the game due to cramping at 8:17 of the third period, and Calvin Pickard finished the game, logging 11:43 of action while stopping nine of 10 Hamilton shots. Mike Condon took the loss for the Bulldogs, stopping 28 of 32 shots in falling to 23-19-6.
