Bridgeport Islanders News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, were shutout 4-0 on the road by the Norfolk Admirals Wednesday in the first of two straight meetings with their East Division rivals.

The teams zipped through a scoreless first period with Norfolk outshooting the Sound Tigers 10-7. The Admirals then took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals just past the mid-point of the game.

First, Matt Ellison rushed down the slot and swept a Rene Bourque feed past Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz for his 12th goal of the season 10:32 into the middle frame, just five seconds after a Norfolk power play expired, to make it 1-0. The helper was Bourque's team-leading 57th point with Anton Babchuk also assisting on the play.

The Admirals doubled their lead to 2-0 with 2:12 left in the second period when Shawn Thornton scored his fourth goal of the season off assists from Brandin Cote and Pavel Vorobiev.

Marty Wilford put a shot through traffic for a power-play goal, his seventh marker of the season, off assists from Ellison and James Wisniewski 1:45 into the third period to make it 3-0.

The Sound Tigers outshot Norfolk 14-4 in the third period and had three overlapping power plays, including a pair of two-man advantages, just past the mid-point of the frame but could not solve Admirals netminder Adam Munro.

Ellison finished the scoring with his second goal of the game and 13th of the season off assists from Matt Keith and Pavel Vorobiev to make it 4-0 with 4:14 left to play.

Munro was the first star of the game with 29 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, Ellison was the second star with a three-point night and Wisniewski was the third with an assist. Dubielewicz made 25 saves in a losing effort as the shots on goal were tied 29-29. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 8 on the power play while Norfolk was 1 for 6.

The Sound Tigers will continue a three-game road trip against the Admirals in Norfolk this Friday at 7:03 p.m. and versus the Hershey Bears this Saturday at 7 p.m. The Sound Tigers will return to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Binghamton Senators this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All three games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
