ALBANY, NY - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-3 on the road to the Albany River Rats Sunday. It was their third loss in a row and their second in as many days by the score of 5-3 to Albany who won by the same margin at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard last night.

For the second game in as many days, Albany dominated the Sound Tigers on special teams following Saturday's 3 for 5 power-play and 2 for 2 penalty-killing efforts by going 3 for 4 on the power play and 5 for 6 on the penalty kill Sunday.

The Sound Tigers started the game with a 6-0 shots on goal run and opened the scoring as Martin Chabada netted his third goal in as many games this weekend, his 11th of the season, on assists from Justin Mapletoft and Raffi Torres at the 15:42 mark of the first period.

Albany tied the game at 1-1 on Steve Kariya's 19th goal of the season just 1:30 into the second period on assists from Craig Darby and former Sound Tiger Dave Roche, but the Sound Tigers regained the lead at 2-1 :36 later on Jeff Hamilton's 16th goal of the year on assists from Mapletoft and Jody Robinson.

Former Sound Tiger Ken Sutton tied the game at 2-2 with his fifth goal of the season on the power play on assists from Roche and Darby at the 9:40 mark of the middle period. Sutton then gave Albany its first lead at 3-2 2:35 later with his second goal of the game and sixth of the year, also on the advantage, on assists from Darby and Stephen Guolla who tied the River Rats single-game high for this season with four points last night in Bridgeport.

The Sound Tigers tied the game at 3-3 4:27 into the third period on Daniel Tkaczuk's sixth goal of the season, a power-play tally, on an assist from Eric Manlow. The Sound Tigers have now scored on the advantage in six of the last seven games.

Kariya scored the game-winning goal, his second goal of the game and 20th of the season, on a five-on-three power play making it 4-3 Albany just 1:54 after Tkaczuk tied the game. Darby, his fourth helper of the game and team-leading 37th of the season, and Guolla assisted on the deciding goal. Darby's four points also equaled Albany's single-game high for this season.

Kariya then iced the 5-3 win with an unassisted, empty-net goal, his team-leading 21st marker of the season, with :10.6 left to play to complete the hat trick and earn first star of the game honors. Darby was the second star, and Sutton was the third.
