Vellinga and Brady Join Rampage

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League today announced that they have signed defenseman Mike Vellinga and goaltender Peter Brady to a professional try-out.

Vellinga, 24, joins the Rampage after playing in 48 games with the East Coast Hockey League's Dayton Bombers where he recorded 21 points (2-19-21). Earlier this season he also spent a brief two-game stint with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs. Throughout his five-year professional career, he has appeared in 20 AHL contests with Saint John (98-01) and Hamilton (02-03), picking up one assist and six penalty minutes.

Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round (184th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Vellinga spent the entire 2001-02 campaign with the Dayton Bombers, appearing in 68 regular season games picking up seven goals, 15 assists and 142 penalty minutes. The Chatham, Ontario native has also played for ECHL Johnstown (98-01) and IHL Orlando (98-99).

Brady, 25, has played in 15 games with the Austin Ice Bats this year, posting a 13-2-0 mark and a 2.25 goals against average. In his most recent action on Friday, Feb. 28, he turned away 21 of 24 shots as the Ice Bats defeated the Lubbock Cotton Kings 6-3.

Prior to joining the Ice Bats, Brady completed his college career playing at both the University of British Columbia (00-02) and the University of Alaska at Anchorage (97-99). He was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the ninth round (227th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Both Vellinga and Brady will be available for the Rampage this evening when the host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on KTKR "The Ticket" 760 AM with Andrew Monaco calling all the action.
