Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Bridgeport Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 29 shots, including 16 in the third period, to help the Sound Tigers salvage a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Wednesday. The Sound Tigers, in front of a matinee crowd of 5,102, including thousands of students from area schools for the People's Bank Cool Fun 101 school-day game, went to a shootout for the second straight game; they beat Worcester 5-4 in their previous game on Sunday.
Erik Christensen scored in regulation and in the shootout to lift the Penguins to 11-3-1-0 this season and Bridgeport dropped to 6-5-0-3.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Rob Schremp and Bridgeport's Sergei Ogorodnikov also scored in the shootout as the Penguins outscored the Sound Tigers 2-1 in the five rounds. Ogorodnikov, who won Sunday's game in the sixth shootout round, has three goals in four such opportunities this year.
The Sound Tigers built leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Jeff Tambellini, his team-leading eighth, and Johan Halvardsson, his first. Tambellini re-directed Allan Rourke's shot past Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Jeff Deslauriers on the power play for a 1-0 lead in the second period. The teams traded goals in the third with Christensen tying the game 1-1 with his team-leading 11th before Halvardsson scored after a perfect feed through the slot by Petteri Nokelainen for a 2-1 Bridgeport lead. Marc-Antoine Pouliot evened the score 2-2 with a power play tally for the Penguins.
The Sound Tigers, who came into the game with the league's second-best penalty killing unit, held the Pens' second-ranked power play to 1-for-6 on the man advantage. The Sound Tigers went 1-for-7 on the power play.
Wednesday's game marked the second time the Sound Tigers went to shootouts in back-to-back games this season - and the third time Bridgeport has gone to a shootout in just five home contests. The Sound Tigers have decided all of their five overtime games in shootouts. The Pens improved to 2-0 in shootouts this season.
Bridgeport visits Worcester on Friday and returns to the Arena to host Binghamton a week from Friday, on Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. For schedule and ticket information, including group discount opportunities, visit soundtigers.com or call 334-4625.
