MANCHESTER, NH - Left wing Dany Roussin collected two goals in his first game since returning from the ECHL's Reading Royals as the Manchester Monarchs skated past former Head Coach Jim Hughes' Toronto Marlies, 4-2, in front of 5,332 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday.

Manchester (6-5-1-1) moves into fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 15 points. Toronto (5-9-1-0) is in fifth place in the North Division with 11 points.

With a delayed penalty on the Marlies and Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera racing to the bench, right wing Mike Hoffman backhanded in his first goal of the season to give Manchester the lead at 8:24 of the first period. Defenseman Joey Mormina fired a shot from the center point that Marlies goaltender Jean-Francois Racine quickly saved with his pads. The rebound popped free and Hoffman jumped on it. Defenseman Peter Harrold added an assist to his team leading 11 assists and 13 points.

Toronto's attempt to tie the game at 3:11 of the middle period with a penalty shot was denied by LaBarbera. Referee Frederick L'Ecuyer awarded the Marlies a penalty shot after Monarchs defenseman Doug Nolan covered the puck in Manchester's crease. Center John Mitchell took the shot for Toronto but LaBarbera made the blocker save.

The Monarchs made it 2-0 at 7:10 of the second period as Roussin scored his first goal of the season. Defenseman T.J. Kemp skated into the Marlies zone and sent a wrist shot to the net. Racine made a pad save but Roussin was on the doorstep to tap in the rebound. Center Patrick O'Sullivan earned his fourth assist of the season on the play.

Marlies defenseman Marc Moro cut the Monarchs lead in half with his second goal of the season. Right wing Brett Engelhardt carried the puck down the right wing boards and passed it over to Moro in the right face-off circle. Moro's wrist shot went sailing over LaBarbera's glove and into the top right corner of the net. Defenseman David Cloutier started the rush in the Marlies zone.

Manchester regained their two-goal lead at 13:34 of the second period as Roussin scored a power play goal, his second tally of the night. Right wing Lauri Tukonen skated to the net and blasted a shot off of the right post. The rebound came to defenseman Shay Stephenson who flipped it behind the net. The puck bounced to the right side of the crease and Roussin was able to sneak it past Racine for the 3-1 lead.

At 10:10 of the third period, Toronto's center Eric Westrum batted the puck out of mid-air into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season. Right wing Jeremy Williams flipped the puck to the slot and Westrum connected with it to bring the Marlies to within one goal.

Defenseman Shay Stephenson added a shorthanded insurance goal at 15:25 of the final period. Stephenson skated down the right wing with only one defender to beat. Putting his body between the defender and the puck, Stephenson skated up to Racine, deked to the right and then slid the puck to his forehand and slipped the puck inside the left post for his first AHL goal.

LaBarbera collected his fifth win of the season stopping 37 of 39 shots. Racine took his fourth loss in a row with 33 saves.

Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Toronto was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
