Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL (November 15, 2006) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced today that defenseman Stephen Wood and right wing Kevin Croxton have been recalled from the team's ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces - 2006 ECHL Kelly Cup Champions. Both players are on two-way, AHL/ECHL contracts with the Rivermen and the Aces.
Wood, 25, has skated in five games for the Aces, posting two goals and 20 penalty minutes (PIM). After not dressing for the first six 2006-07 Rivermen games, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Sudbury, Massachusetts, played in the team's last four contests in October with a +1 plus/minus rating, while seeing significant time on the power play. He competed in 52 AHL games over his previous two seasons with the Philadelphia Phantoms, notching 13 points (2g, 11a) and collecting 36 penalty minutes (PIM).
Croxton, 24, leads the Aces in goal scoring (6), is tied for the team lead in power-play goals (2), is tied for fourth in plus/minus (+3) and is tied for seventh in points (8). The 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, participated with the Blues at the annual NHL Prospects Tournament in September in Traverse City, Michigan. The tournament featured eight NHL teams: Detroit (host), St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Dallas, Atlanta, Minnesota and the New York Rangers.
Croxton completed a four-year, NCAA Division I career with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (ECAC) with 143 points (57g, 86a) in a school-record 147 games last spring. Upon the conclusion of his senior season, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, enjoyed a 10-game AHL stint with the Springfield Falcons, notching four points (2g, 2a). As a senior, he captained RPI, leading the team in points (39) and assists (25) over 31 contests.
