
Sound Tigers Earn Five Points On Road

The Sound Tigers earned points in three of the four road games they played in a five-day span last week. They beat the Binghamton Senators 4-3 in a seven-round shootout Wednesday, lost 4-3 to the Springfield Falcons Friday, rallied to beat the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 in overtime Saturday and lost 1-0 in overtime to the Albany River Rats Sunday. The Sound Tigers finished the week in sixth place in the East Division with 66 points and a 31-31-3-1 record, including 23-8 at home, 8-23-3-1 on the road and 6-3-1 in the last ten games. Sunday's game also marked the end of a stretch in which they went 5-2-1 playing eight games, five on the road, in 12 days.
WED MAR 16th at BIN, 4-3 W: The Sound Tigers built a 2-0 lead on goals by MATT KOALSKA and ROB COLLINS, but Binghamton rallied on a pair of second-period tallies by ANTOINE VERMETTE who was denied a natural hat trick when DIETER KOCHAN stopped him on a penalty shot with 1:15 left in the middle frame. JUSTIN PAPINEAU regained the lead for the Sound Tigers, but JASON SPEZZA tied it for the Senators as the teams traded third-period, power-play goals. They then skated scoreless through overtime and the first four rounds of the shootout before SEAN BERGENHEIM, Collins and Papineau connected for the Sound Tigers. Kochan finished with 41 saves as the Sound Tigers were outshot 44-41. They were 2 for 6 on the power play while Binghamton was 1 for 4.
FRI MAR 18th at SPR, 4-3 L: BRUNO GERVAIS scored on the power play and shorthanded, ED CAMPBELL notched his first goal of the season, CHRIS CAMPOLI had two assists and DIETER KOCHAN made 27 saves for the Sound Tigers. CRAIG DARBY, SHANE WILLIS, JUSTIN KELLY and MIKE EGENER scored and former Sound Tiger DEREK BEKAR had two assists for Springfield. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 3 on the power play and 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. The Falcons had a 31-27 shots on goal advantage.
SAT MAR 19th at MCH, 4-3 OTW: Manchester led 3-0 by the mid-point of the game on goals by BRAD SMYTH, DUSTIN BROWN and GEORGE PARROS, but the Sound Tigers rallied on a late, second-period, power-play goal by COLE JARRETT and a pair of third-period tallies by JUSTIN MAPLETOFT. ROB COLLINS then scored the game-winner with 1:58 left in overtime. CHRIS CAMPOLI set a Sound Tigers season-high with nine shots on goal, RYAN CALDWELL tied a single-game, franchise record with three assists and WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 25 saves for the win. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play and had a 40-28 shots on goal advantage. The Monarchs were 1 for 3 on the advantage.
SUN MAR 20th at ALB, 1-0 OTL: AHREN NITTEL scored on the power play with 58.8 seconds left in overtime off assists from DEAN McAMMOND and BRIAN GIONTA. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play while Albany was 1 for 4, including one advantage that carried over from the end of regulation into the extra session followed by the one on which the game-winning goal was scored. The River Rats outshot the Sound Tigers 29-11.
SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK â G WADE DUBIELEWICZ
Highlight-reel saves punctuated two starts for Dubielewicz who stopped 53 of 57 shots for a .930 save percentage, 1.94 goals against average and 1-1 record, losing only in overtime, last week. Last season's AHL Rookie of the Year ended the week 14-18-1 with a 2.68 goals against average, .911 save percentage, one shutout and one assist in 33 games.
THIS WEEK â Sound Tigers Return To Long Island
The Sound Tigers will play three home games beginning with a return engagement on Long Island when they host the Norfolk Admirals at the Nassau Coliseum Wednesday before returning to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday and the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday.
WED MAR 23rd vs. NOR on LI, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the sixth of eight meetings of the teams this regular season, the fourth and final hosted by the Sound Tigers who are 6-9 all-time versus Norfolk, including 2-3 this season with a pair of home wins. Norfolk finished last week in third place in the East Division with 82 points and a 38-24-1-5 record, including 16-16-1-4 on the road. The Sound Tigers finished last week with two games in hand on the Admirals.
FRI MAR 25th vs. WIL, 7:35 p.m.: This will be the eighth and final meeting of the teams this regular season, the fourth hosted by the Sound Tigers who are 10-6-1 all-time versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, including 3-4 this season with three home wins. The Penguins finished last week in the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division with 78 points and a 33-20-6-6 record, including 12-11-5-4 on the road. They will visit the Hamilton Bulldogs Wednesday. The Sound Tigers won their last meeting with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3-2 in front of 16,297 fans at the Nassau Coliseum on February 18th.
SAT MAR 26th vs. HAR, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the tenth and final meeting of the 2004-05 GEICO CONNECTICUT CUP. The Sound Tigers are 20-16-3 all-time versus Hartford, including 3-6 this season with an overtime loss and a shootout loss. The Wolf Pack finished last week in second place in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference with 89 points and a 42-21-2-3 record, including 16-15-1-2 on the road. Hartford will host the Lowell Lock Monsters Wednesday.

CHRIS CAMPOLI is scheduled to visit Rowayton Elementary School this Thursday at 1 p.m. ⢠The team mascot STORM is scheduled to make a trio of appearances this week visiting New Lebanon School in Greenwich Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Rowayton Elementary School Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and the Greater New Haven Hockey Year End Banquet in Wallingford Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ⢠Saturday, March 26th will be "Back to the Beach Night". THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE
The Sound Tigers will bus to Long Island and practice at IceWorks in Syosset this Tuesday morning. They will practice at the Nassau Coliseum Wednesday morning, play there that night and return to Bridgeport after the game. The Sound Tigers are also scheduled to practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard this Thursday through Saturday at 10 a.m.
