Amerks send Dufresne back to Toledo

March 21, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that Sylvain Dufresne has been returned on loan to the Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League. The defenseman played last night as the Amerks defeated the Cleveland Barons 2-0 at HSBC Arena in Buffalo.

With the Storm this season, he has six assists and 25 penalty minutes in 25 games. Dufresne has also played in 29 games with Rochester, recording two assists.

On Sunday, the Amerks and Barons tested out the blue ice and the new color scheme at the arena. The experiment has the traditional blue lines replaced by orange lines and the red center ice line is dark blue. The faceoff circles are orange, while the end lines and crease lines remain red.

The win set a new single-season team shutout record of nine, breaking the old mark established during the 1999-2000 season. The victory was Ryan Miller's league-leading 38th, the most by an AHL goalie in one season in 40 years, since Gerry Cheevers won a record 48 games for the 1964-65 Amerks. Miller also extended his single-season franchise record for shutouts to eight. The East Lansing, Mich., native also leads the AHL in minutes played (3317:46), shutouts and saves (1,594).

Rochester has moved within striking distance of its single-season record for points in a season. With 106 points this season, the team is only six away from breaking the 1998-99 mark of 111 points. Thomas Vanek is in second place in the AHL in rookie scoring with 54 points (30+24) in 64 games.

The Amerks play only one game in the next 11 days. Rochester returns home to The Blue Cross Arena on Friday, March 25th to host the Hershey Bears at 7:35 p.m. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. The contest will also be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and amerks.com.

That night the first 1,500 fans will receive a Randy Cunneyworth Bobblehead courtesy of ESL Federal Credit Union. After the game, head to the official postgame party at Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange Blvd.).

The American Hockey League's Calder Cup 2005 Tour will make a two-day visit to Rochester during its 47-day excursion around the AHL. The Cup will arrive in the Flower City on Thursday, March 24th for a media day. The following day, the Cup will be on display as the Amerks host their oldest rival, the Hershey Bears.
