IN THE COMMUNITY

The 8th Annual Evening with the Pirates, presented by Key Bank, to benefit the Portland Pirates Foundation and the Pirates' new ship exhibit at the Children's Museum of Maine was a terrific success. Over 400 friends gathered on March 15th at The Stadium Restaurant & Sports Bar to enjoy an evening of fun and fashion, which included silent and live auctions, entertainment with comedienne Christine O'Leary, WGME's Kiley Bennett and WBLM's Herb Ivy, a special fashion show presented by Betsy's and Joseph's, food and beverages from some of downtown Portland's finest restaurants including beer provided by Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub, plus live music and dancing! The festivities were highlighted by having the entire Portland Pirates team in attendance throughout the evening! This year the Pirates raised over $22,000 at the event.

In the eight years of this event, the Pirates have now raised over $200,000 for local charities and community programs. Special thanks once again to Martha Bradley of Project Solutions LLC who helped manage the event with our players, team, office staff and volunteers from start to finish.

The Portland Pirates Foundation have announced the creation of Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids" fundraiser, which will be held on April 3, 2005 at the Cumberland County Civic Center, to raise funds for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Tomorrow, catch the Pirates Head Coach Tim Army on WJAB at 8:00 a.m. on the "The Morning Jab" on WJAB 95.5FM and 1440AM.
