March 21, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce today that Manitoba Moose goaltender Wade Flaherty has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 20, 2005.
In Manitoba's four games this week, Flaherty, 36, posted a 3-0-1 record with his fourth shutout of the season coming Sunday as Manitoba shutout the Houston Aeros 2-0. The Terrace, B.C. native stopped 125 of the 129 shots he faced this week, including stopping 49 of 50 shots fired his way in Manitoba's 2-1 shootout loss to the Milwaukee Admirals back on Wednesday, March 16th. He finished the week with a goals against average of 0.98 in four games and a save percentage of .969. The Moose have now won three games in a row and have gained at least a point in four straight games. They enter the week four points up on the St. John's Maple Leafs for second in the North Division with one game in hand. In recognition of his achievement, Flaherty will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Moose home game.
Flaherty, in his 16th professional season, has a record of 17-8-3 with four shutouts in 31 appearances with the Moose this year. Among his 243 wins and 558 games as a pro, Flaherty shows a mark of 80-55-19 in 166 AHL games with six teams. A native of Terrace, B.C., Flaherty has also played 120 career NHL games since his debut in 1991-92.
Flaherty becomes the second member of the Manitoba Moose to be named CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week this season. Jason King was also given the award for the week ending October 17th, 2004. Flaherty now becomes the fifth member of the Manitoba Moose to be named AHL Player of the Week in their history. Defenceman Justin Kurtz was given the recognition back on Feb. 5/03, while Steve Kariya was named AHL Player of the Week back on Oct. 14/02 and Alex Auld back on Dec. 30/02.
