Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Sound Tigers captain Aaron Ness scored his first two goals of the season but it was not enough as the Springfield Falcons defeated Bridgeport 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena.

Three straight goals by the Falcons in the second period, scored by Dana Tyrell, Corey Cowick and Jerry D'Amigo, proved to be the difference as Springfield came back from a 2-1 deficit.

The Sound Tigers got within one, mid way through the third period on a shorthanded goal by Chris Langkow but the comeback attempt would fall just short.

Ness got the scoring started just three minutes into the game as he finished a pretty feed from Alan Quine to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Tyrell would tie the game for the Falcons four minutes later with his first goal of the game but the Sound Tigers would re-take the lead late in the first period. Ness once again was the recipient of a nice pass from Kael Mouillierat to give Bridgeport a 2-1 lead after one period.

Midway through the second period with the Sound Tigers on a power play, the Falcons had a two on none breakaway chance before David Leggio took matters into his own hands. Leggio knocked the goal off of its moorings on purpose and the referees awarded the Falcons a penalty shot. The Falcons had Tyrell take the shot but Leggio made a pad save, moving to his right and the score remained 2-1.

Tyrell would not be deterred, as he would score moments later to tie the game at 2-2 and the momentum completely shifted over to the Falcons. Cowick would give the Falcons the lead 1:35 later and D'Amigo would score what would turn out to be the game winner three minutes later on a breakaway.

Leggio had 19 saves in a losing effort while Falcons goalie Oscar Dansk got the win as he finished with 26 saves.

Alan Quine had a multi-point game, notching two assists for Bridgeport while Jamie Sifers and Kerby Rychel of the Falcons also had multi-point games, as they each got two assists.

The Sound Tigers return to the ice on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. as they welcome in the Norfolk Admirals to Webster Bank Arena.

Notes: Ness was named the second star of the game... Colin McDonald and Harry Zolnierczyk each had assists... The Sound Tigers lost for the first time at home since losing the season opener to the IceCaps on October 11 th .
