Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons topped the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-3, this afternoon at the Webster Bank Arena.

The victory snaps a two-game losing streak and lifts the Falcons to 4-5-1-0 on the season, while making them 1-0-1-0 in the eight-game season series against the Sound Tigers. Bridgeport moves to 5-3-0-1.

Springfield netminder Oscar Dansk turned away 26 of 29 shots. Bridgeport netminder David Leggio stopped 19 of 23. While the Falcons were unable to convert on two power-play opportunities, the penalty kill unit shut down all four Sound Tigers man-advantages.

The Sound Tigers opened scoring at the 3:09 mark of the first period when Aaron Ness netted a backdoor shot from the left side of the crease. Alan Quine and Colin McDonald picked up points for assisting on the goal.

The Falcons responded four minutes later. Kerby Rychel received a pass from Thomas Larkin and set up Dana Tyrell at the top of the right wing circle. Tyrell powered a shot past Leggio to tie the game, 1-1.

Just as the Falcons killed off a hooking penalty on Domenic Monardo, the Sound Tigers took back the lead with 2:17 remaining in the opening period. Quine sent a feed down to Kael Mouillierat at the goal line. His shot deflected off Dansk's left pad and was chipped in by Ness for his second goal from the left side of the crease.

A three-goal effort by the Falcons in the middle frame built up a 4-2 lead. Tyrell evened the score at the 13:49 mark. He passed down to Rychel in the left corner for a give and go. Tyrell picked up the return pass in the left circle and netted his second goal of the game.

Corey Cowick gave the Falcons the lead two minutes later. With a quick move to beat a Sound Tigers defender at the right point, Cowick was able to net a shot from the slot. Jaime Sifers and Frederic St. Denis each picked up a point on the go-ahead goal.

The Falcons extended their lead with 1:11 remaining in the second. Sifers passed ahead to Jerry D'Amigo for a breakaway. He faked Leggio and shoveled in a backhanded shot to earn his second goal in as many games.

The Sound Tigers scored once in the third, but were unable to catch the Falcons. While Scooter Vaughan was serving a 2:00 minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, Harry Zolnierczyk forced a turn over in the Sound Tigers zone. He skated the puck into the Falcons zone and put a shot on net that was left loose in the crease. Chris Langkow picked up the rebound for a shorthanded goal at the 7:25 mark.

The Springfield Falcons return to the MassMutual Center to host the St. John's IceCaps Nov. 5 and Nov. 7.
