Portland Pirates News Release
Albany, N.Y. - The Portland Pirates (5-5-0-0) were successful in their first overtime bid of the season, beating the Albany Devils (6-1-1-1) 2-1 at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Sunday afternoon.
Albany started the game hot with a 1:28 goal in the first period from Joe Whitney, assisted by Ben Thompson and Scott Timmins. The third period came and went without incident. The Pirates were able to kill four penalties against Albany's fourth-ranked power play in the period and were a pefect 7-0 on the penalty kill throughout the game. Conversely, the Devils were 1 and 3 on the night for their penalty kill.
With the game tied at one, Albany and Portland headed to overtime, the first of the season for the Pirates. Portland converted with a goal from Lucas Lessio, assisted by Brendan Shinnimin at 2:58.
Pirates net minder Mike McKenna (2-4-0) saved 31 out of 32 total shots for his second win of the season. Keith Kinkaid (4-0-2) manned the goal for the Devils, saving 21 of 23 shots.
