Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Nick Shore had his first multi-goal game of the season, lifting the Monarchs to a 3-1 win over Hershey at Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. The win avenged a 4-0 shutout loss to the Bears on Halloween night.

"I thought it was a better game than I was expecting from two teams that had played two games in two-and-a-half days," Head Coach Mike Stothers said. "I don't want to overanalyze it. We got two out of three wins on the weekend, which is good."

The Monarchs took advantage early with a penalty shot against Hersey for hooking at 1:48. Center Jordan Weal slowly made his way down the ice before lifting the puck into the top right corner of the net giving the Manchester the early 1-0 lead.

The Bears answered right back with their transition offense as winger Casey Wellman streaked from his own blue line, up the right wing before sending a weak pass towards net that center Chris Nebury successfully tipped in to tie the game 1-1 at 8:03.

A controversial no goal call occurred at 6:02 in the second period. With a cluster of Bears and Monarchs in front of the Hersey net, the puck trickled off of the post and in front of the Bears' goal, followed by the net being dislodged and play to be stopped for review. The call was confirmed for no goal.

The Monarchs continued their pressure in the second period with a breakaway goal by center Nick Shore. With possession of the puck at center ice, Monarchs left winger Michael Mersch found Shore shooting up ice. Shore received the pass cleanly, and with a Hersey Bear on his tail still managed to get goal tender Phillipp Grubauer leaning one way as he found the back of the net to give Manchester the 2-1 lead.

Shore's second of the night came in the third period he found his way through several Hersey defenders to put a shot on net, and capitalize on his own rebound.

The Monarchs return home with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night against Lehigh Valley and Springfield, with both games slated for 7 p.m.

Notes:

* Nick Shore has tallied multiple points in three of his last four games and has multiple points in four games this season. * Patrik Bartosak earned his second win of the season with 27 saves. * The Monarchs are 5-0 this season when leading after two periods and are 5-1 when scoring the game's first goal. * Jordan Weal's penalty shot in the first period was the team's first penalty shot of the year.
