
Sound Tigers Agree to Terms with MacKinnon

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced today defenseman Ryan MacKinnon has agreed to terms on an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of this season and 2018-19. He has also been recalled from the Worcester Railers H.C. of the ECHL.
MacKinnon, 23, played nine games with the Railers this season following a three-year career at the University of Prince Edward Island. He recorded nine points (two goals, seven assists) and a plus-five rating with Worcester, including his first professional goal on Mar. 2 against the Wheeling Nailers. MacKinnon made his pro debut on Feb. 27 against the Brampton Beast.
A native of Summerside, P.E.I., MacKinnon collected 48 points (12 goals, 36 assists) and 52 penalty minutes in 82 collegiate games from 2015-18. He was also named to the CIS (AUS) All-Rookie Team in 2015-16 and the First All-Star Team this season.
Prior to playing for the University of Prince Edward Island, MacKinnon spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and notched 107 points (20 goals, 87 assists) in 252 games between the Rimouski Oceanic and Charlottetown Islanders. The 6'0, 190-pound defenseman served as Rimouski's captain in 2013-14 and Charlottetown's captain in 2014-15, skating alongside New York Islanders forward Ross Johnston.
