March 20, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Chicago Wolves in overtime on Tuesday at The Q by a final score of 3-2. With the extra-time setback, the Monsters are now 21-33-6-3 overall this season and with a .405 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
Chicago struck for the first period's only score at 2:23 when Stefan Matteau posted a power-play goal. In the middle frame, Cleveland's Alex Broadhurst leveled things at one with an extra-man strike of his own at 9:00, assisted by Jordan Schroeder and Nathan Gerbe, before Wolves center Wade Megan pushed Chicago back in front at 16:18 with an even-strength tally to make it 2-1 for the visitors through 40 minutes of play.
In the third, Broadhurst potted his second of the game just 1:13 into the final stanza to tie the game at two thanks to Garett Cockerill's and Gerbe's five-on-five helpers. After the rest of the period slid by scoreless, former Monsters sniper T.J. Tynan ended things at 1:05 of overtime with a game-winning three-on-three conversion to deliver the Wolves a victory by a final score of 3-2.
Monsters goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks is now 12-17-3 overall this season following a 25-save performance, while Chicago's Oscar Dansk improved to 8-1-2 in net by virtue of a 19-save showing. Next up for the Monsters, it's a Thursday rematch vs. the Wolves with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1 and the Monsters Hockey Network.
